Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Do you offer a medical aesthetician license?

A.  There is no such license in Illinois!  Aestheticians calling themselves medical aestheticians are usually aestheticians with additional training and are working in medical aesthetics.  If you would like to work in the aesthetics field, you must be a licensed aesthetician (or in some states you can be a licensed cosmetologist).

Q.  How do I become a medical aesthetician, then?

A.  First, you become a licensed aesthetician from a school that offers advanced aesthetics training in their licensing program; such as, The University of Aesthetics or go to another school and come back to The University of Aesthetics for continuing education classes.

Q.  I want to work in medical aesthetics, how do I begin?

A.  Your first step is to enroll at The University of Aesthetics!  Our graduates are appealing to medical aesthetics offices because our curriculum includes areas of study beyond the minimum state requirements.  We teach advanced aesthetic techniques that are considered medical; including, chemical peels, light therapy, dermabrasion, cellulite therapy, and lymphatic theory as well as clinical treatment protocols!

Q.  Do you teach laser?

A.  Unfortunately, Illinois does not allow schools to teach laser.  Most medical offices offering laser treatments train their employed aestheticians to work with their specific brand of equipment.

Q.  How long does the course take?

A.  Our full time program is 6 months and a week and our part time program takes about a year to complete.  Individual results will vary depending upon holidays, attendance, and whether or not the student participates in an internship program.

Q.  How can I intern?

A.  We are licensed and approved to allow an internship program by the State of Illinois.  A student can receive a maximum of 75 hours in extracurricular training provided the training is by a licensed aesthetician, cosmetologist, or doctor and the office, spa, or salon is properly licensed.  Additionally, the student must meet state and institutional guidelines.

Q.  What are your admission's office hours?

A.  Our admissions office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
